This auction is for a great vintage, if not antique mute for brass instrument ~ perfect for collectors and decorators!  This and other items we now have listed have been purchased at recent rural Kansas estate auctions. This listing:

this mute is marked New Stone Lined Cup Mute
by Humes & Berg of East Chicago and Indiana
it is right at 12 inches tall and is right at 2 1/2 inches in diameter at widest point
made of aluminum or other metal
painted red and white
I do NOT know what instrument it was designed for
some paint chipping noted
has three corks applied to the pointed end
someone has written SKID in red near the top
dusty due to years of storage
estate sale find
I am guessing that it dates to the  1940s
estate find
color shade is accurate on my monitor
straight from the auction
no odors noted
