Korvette was a historic and revolutionary New York City discount department store that was founded in 1948 by a
Kor
ean War
Vet
. It started in a Manhattan loft but grew to 58 stores, many of which, unlike its then competitors, located in the suburbs which enabled it to benefit from the rapid rise of the suburbs during the Baby Boom years of the 1950's and 60's.
Korvette cut retail prices by as much as 1/3rd, which at the time was illegal! They did this by offering membership cards and savings. Their retail model was copied to one extent or another by Walmart, Costco, K-Mart and Target. Read Korvette's entire history here:
